Why We Always Recommend Guests to Visit Ella

We always recommend that our guests visit Ella.

At GlenMyu Boutique Villa we love sharing Sri Lanka with our guests.

We enjoy showing them authentic experiences.

Ella is not our favourite place.

It feels too touristy and does not reflect Sri Lanka as we see it.

However, we always recommend a day trip to Ella.

Guests often enjoy the sights and return with stories to share.

Why Visit Ella During Your Stay

Ella offers several famous attractions.

Many visitors want to see them during their holiday.

Even if Ella feels busy, the sights are worth exploring. Guests at GlenMyu Boutique Villa often take a day trip.

They usually choose three highlights to visit.

Little Adam’s Peak

Little Adam’s Peak is a short climb suitable for most visitors.

The trail is easy and rewarding.

At the summit, guests enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

It is a perfect start to a day in Ella.

Nine Arch Bridge

Nine Arch Bridge is one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed landmarks.

Visitors wait to see a train cross the bridge.

The sight is memorable and makes for wonderful photos.

Guests often combine this stop with Little Adam’s Peak.

Ravana Waterfall

Ravana Waterfall is a dramatic natural attraction near Ella.

The falls are impressive during the rainy season.

Many guests stop here for photos and relaxation.

It is a refreshing break before heading into Ella town.

Ravana’s Cave

Ravana’s Cave is linked to local legends.

It offers a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s folklore.

Guests who enjoy history often include this stop.

The cave adds cultural depth to the Ella experience.

Ella Rock

Ella Rock is a longer hike.

It requires more time and energy.

Some guests prefer shorter activities, but keen hikers enjoy the challenge.

The views from the top are spectacular.

Cafes and People Watching

Ella town has many cafes and bars.

Guests enjoy sitting with a drink and watching the world go by.

It is a chance to relax after sightseeing.

The atmosphere is lively and social.

Is Ella too Touristy?

A Typical Day Trip to Ella

Guests often leave GlenMyu Boutique Villa after breakfast.

They climb Little Adam’s Peak first.

Then they head to Nine Arch Bridge to watch a train.

Next they visit Ravana Waterfall.

Lunch or a snack in Ella town completes the trip.

The Calypso Train Experience

Recently, guests have enjoyed the Calypso Train.

It departs from Bandarawella Railway Station.

The train stops on Nine Arch Bridge for fifteen minutes.

Passengers can get off and take photos.

The train then continues to Demodara.

The History of Demodara Loop

Demodara Loop is a marvel of engineering.

The track loops around a hill and passes under itself.

It was built during British colonial times.

The design solved the challenge of steep terrain.

Today it remains a highlight for railway enthusiasts.

Alternative to the Kandy to Ella Train

Tickets for the Kandy to Ella train are often difficult to secure.

The Calypso Train offers a great alternative.

Guests enjoy the same scenery without the stress of ticket shortages.

Mixed Reactions to Ella

Some guests return delighted with their day trip.

Others feel Ella is too touristy.

We understand both views.

However, we believe the experience is valuable.

Guests can share stories with friends and family who have visited Ella.

Our Cinnamon bedroom is on the ground floor of the property and has direct access to the gardens.

The Swimming Pool

Our Natural Spring-Fed Swimming pool at GlenMyu Boutique Villa is located a short walk from the house.

Guests like that fact that it is private and not overlooked by the house.

Our food offering at GlenMyu Boutique Villa is mainly plant based or vegetarian as we are able to source good quality fresh ingredients.

However, we do offer some fish and chicken dishes for our guests.

We make our dishes freshly to order from the best ingredients we can find.

Amma shows you how to cook Sri Lankan

We offer a complimentary Sri Lankan cookery demonstration at GlenMyu Boutique Villa when our guests order our Sri Lankan sharing platter.

The platter consists of six or seven vegetarian dishes and is served with rice or flat bread.

It’s a fun and interesting expeirence. We love it when our guests try making some of the dishes when they get home.

There are five acres at GlenMyu Boutique Villa and we grow various fruits, vegetables, and spices.
