What Happens in the Low Season in Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka does have a low season for tourists.
At GlenMyu Estate we take the opportunity to close for a while until the weather improves.
Don’t worry, we are not idle during this period.
There is plenty of work to do on the estate preparing for the next tourist season.
Is it worth visiting Sri Lanka in the low season
Sri Lanka is an all year round destination, however in some months you need to be flexible to move if the rains come.
The country has two Monsoons; The South West monsoon and The North East monsoon.
During these times you should try to avoid the parts of the island that are affected.
Read more about Sri Lankan monsoons in the link below.
If you do travel outside the main tourist season, you will find less crowds and some good deals at hotels.
There is a bit of a risk as we are a tropical island, but you will enjoy your time whatever the weather.
A surprising October in 2025
In the past we have closed down for most of October as it can be a bit rainy in the Sri Lankan Hill Country.
However, we were a little bit surprised at what happened in October 2025.
Sri Lanka was recommended as the best place to visit in October 2025 by Time Out Magazine.
When I read the article, I was a little bit skeptical.Â
I thought that guests may be a bit disappointed as I expected a fair amount of rain during the month.
However, we did have several bookings during October 2025 as we had been recommended by previous guests to their friends.
We hosted many guests from the UK and Australia during October.
I was really surprised that the weather was spectacular during the month.
Our guests were able to enjoy the estate and also take outings to Ella, Upper Diyaluma, Lipton’s Seat etc.

Amma shows you how to cook Sri Lankan
We offer a complimentary Sri Lankan cookery demonstration at GlenMyu Boutique Villa when our guests order our Sri Lankan sharing platter.

It’s a fun and interesting experience. We love it when our guests try making some of the dishes when they get home.

There are five acres at GlenMyu Boutique Villa and we grow various fruits, vegetables, and spices.
