Waterfalls
Bambarakanda Falls (20km/50 minutes) – Bambarakanda Falls is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka at 263m (863 ft). The waterfall is formed by Kuda Oya which is a branch of the Walawe River and it is surrounded by a forest of pine trees. There is a well signposted hike to the waterfalls and a rustic seating place where you can enjoy the falls.
Diyaluma Falls & Upper Diyaluma (19km/45 minutes) – at 220m (720ft) high this is the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The falls are formed by Pungala Oya, a tributary of Kuda Oya, which in turn is a tributary of Kirindi Oya. The bottom of the falls can be viewed from the main Koslanda Road or alternatively there are various ways to get to the top whether hiking or being driven part of the way by Tuk Tuk.
Lipton Seat (25km/70 minutes) – a scenic viewpoint where the Scottish Tea Baron Sir Thomas Lipton used to survey his tea estates. There is a panoramic view overlooking Handapanagala Lake, Udawalawe Lake, Wedahiti Kanda Mountains and Hambantota Port. There is a hike to the top and depending upon the weather you will get a great view or alternatively you could be enveloped in mist. We have experienced both on our trips to the viewpoint.
