9 kilometres of the Pekoe Trail Stage 12 – Haputale to Idalgashinna.

Our guests hiked part of the new Pekoe Trail in December 2023.

GlenMyu Estate is located close to stages 12, 13 and 14 of the Pekoe Trail.
It is ideal for those who want to stay in a comfortable boutique B & B which serves fabulous food crafted by Ru.

Plans change for the better.

Our guests originally wanted to hike stage 13 of the Pekoe Trail from Haputale to St Catherine.

However, as there had been a lot of rain in Sri Lanka (more than usual) during October, November and early December this trail would be too slippery.

We has sourced a local guide who has trekked these paths for many years and seemed his advice.
He recommended hiking part of stage 12 of the Pekoe Trail starting in Haputale.

By hiking 8-9 kilometres from Haputale to Idalgashinna Railway station he advised that it would be an easier part of the route and more comfortable for our guests.

As Haputale is only twenty minutes drive from GlenMyu Estate, then it is a convenient starting point.

An early start.

Our guests had a small breakfast before leaving GlenMyu Estate around 7.30 a.m. so they has something to keep them going.

We also provided them with some extra breakfast items that they could eat on their way at one of the rest points.

A Tuk Tuk took them to Haputale which costs LKR 1,500.

A local guide - led by an expert.

We had arranged the local guide, Thila, to meet our guests at Haputale Railways station to start the 9 kilometres hike to Idalgashinna.

The guide fee for the hike was LKR 8,000.

A strong recommendation from our guests.

Our guests advised that getting a guide to take you on the hike is essential.

Some of the pathways were overgrown and some had been affected by the inclement weather. Thila has been walking these pathways for many years and can navigate you around any obstacles.

He also was able to give a commentary on the plants that you see on the way and also any interesting landmarks.

In our opinion, this really add colour to your hike.

We a can plan your trip.
