The FIFA World Cup is being held in Qatar in November-December 2022.
It starts on the 20th November and the World Cup Final is on the 18th December.
Hotels and other types of accommodation may well be expensive during the tournament and some fans will be looking for alternatives to staying in Qatar for the whole event.
Does Qatar have enough hotels for the World Cup?
Qatar has only 40,000 rooms and they is going at a premium.
There are 8 stadiums and demand will be high esspecially during the league stages.
There will be 3 games-a-day, hence affordability is a big question.
An alternative destination will be flying to Dubai but Dubai is at an ultra-premium now.
Sri Lanka considers itself as an option for accommodation in between games during the tournament since the flight time between Doha and Colombo is 4 hours 50 minutes.
How much is a hotel in Qatar for the World Cup?
According to this article on Forbes the prices can vary from US50 per night outside of Qatar.
“Qatar’s official website has rooms on the MSC Poesia cruise ship available from $179 per night, but for most dates, the price of a room with a double bed is closer to $500 a night”

Sri Lanka is promoted as a transit zone for the World Cup in Qatar
Sir Lanka’s tourism industry is working on converting the hotels in Negombo as a lodging centre and fan zones for the overseas FIFA World Cup spectators. More information can be found from this article in the Sunday Times of Sri Lanka.
It could also be an add on to a holiday after the exit of the fan’s team from the World Cup or after the final!
Qatar airlines has agreed to increase the number of flights in between Doha and Colombo during the FIFA World Cup.

According to Sporting News The temperatures in Qatar during the FIFA World Cup are predicted to be between 26-28°C (78-82°F) during the early group games.
The knockout rounds also won’t start until December which is officially the start of winter in Qatar.
The average daily temperatures at that time are expected to drop to between 19-26°C (66-78°F)
The temperatures in Beragala are predicted to be between 2o-23°C (68-74°F) during November according to Climate Data.
In December Climate Data predict a similar temperature range.
