Horton Plains is a national park located in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It was designated a National Park in 1988 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 3,169 hectares consists of ecosystems such as Montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands and aquatic ecosystem.
The plains are also of outstanding scenic beauty and conservation importance, containing most of the habitats and endemic plants and animals.
The Flora and the Fauna
As Horton Plains is at an elevation ranging between 2,100–2,300 m (6,900–7,500 ft), the environment hosts some interesting flora and fauna.

After admiring the landscape, listening to the birdsong and spotting various animals you eventually reach the stunning Baker’s Falls.
There are steps that take you to a seating area where you can sit, regain some energy and enjoy the cascade.
What does it cost to visit Horton Plains National Park?
Horton Plains is one of the more expensive places to visit in Sri Lanka.Â
However, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, creates local employment and protects an important landscape.
