After a five year hiatus the Galle Literary Festival too place in January 2024.
In attendance were authors including Booker Prize-winning authors, Shehan Karunatilake and DBC Pierre.
Decorated war correspondent, Christina Lamb, together with Nujeen Mustafa, co-author and subject of her award-winning book, The Girl from Aleppo.
Novelist and screenwriter, Anthony Horowitz.
Ukranian writer and intellectual, Andrey Kurkov.
Alexander McCall Smith, acclaimed author of more than 119 books
A successful event
The Sri Lankan Sunday Times said that there were more than 5000 visitors at the Galle Literary Festival in January 2024.
The star-studded speaker list featured 25 local and 27 international authors.
Historian Peter Frankopan, called the Festival a “joy from start to finish.”
What is it and where is it?
Galle Literary Festival comprises of a schedule of more than 180 events included talks and panel discussion.
The Festival also had interactive workshops, film screenings, an immersive Art Trail and a Children’s Programme.
The festival takes place in Galle Fort which is on the southern coast of Sri Lanka
A literary Festival, Gourmet Galle, an Art Trail and a children's festival
Galle Literary Festival is not just a book festival.
Coinciding with the literary festival was Gourmet Galle. Each weekend between January and March, Gourmet Galle hosted an internationally renowned chef in different boutique venues across the South Coast. Find out more by clicking on the link below.
An Art Trail also took place which consisted of programme of curated art exhibitions, artists’ tours and open houses
The children’s festival was a calendar of creative workshops and storytelling sessions.
The junior programme was designed to inspire the next generation of avid readers and aspiring writers.
