Spice Garden Tour at GlenMyu Estate

We offer a complimentary spice garden tour of GlenMyu Estate to guests that stay at the luxury bed and breakfast.

An informal tour

The tour around the garden is informal and informative. It’s a fun thing to do and can be arranged by directly speaking to Ru.

Our garden has not been planned and we had a limited amount of knowledge on what we should do when we started working on the land. Help and advice from our neighbours, the agricultural department and research from books and the internet has all helped to make a beautiful garden.

We have worked with the landscape to create an environment which is attractive to our guests whilst adding to the biodiversity of the landscape.

A garden tour for guests at GlenMyu Estate

An ongoing project

As we only started the project in 2018 a lot of what we have planted is in it’s infancy and will still take time to bear fruits.

We are however, fortunate that in the Sri Lankan Hill country the climate is helping establish what we have planted quite quickly. That means that there are lots of things to see on the tour.

The garden is organic and we doing not use any chemicals or pesticides on the land.

We have ambitions to complete our version of Lombard Street along with a walking track around the perimeter of the estate.

Our ultimate aim is to eventually have an established fruit forest. This hopefully will provide plenty of food for both us, our guests and the creatures that visit the estate enough to eat.

What will I see on the garden tour

Some of the more mature plants and trees managed to establish themselves prior to Ru purchasing the abandoned estate.

We have varieties of Jackfruit, some Mango’s and Avocado Trees that bear fruits.

Citrus fruits such as Mandarins, Oranges and Lemons

Here is a taste of what you will see on our garden tour. Chillis, Bananas, Cloves, Coffee, Loofah, Passion fruits and many more things to see.

We have planted lots of endemic plants which we sourced from the Ayurvedic Plant Nursery in Haldumulla.

As these plants establish we will have a wider range of foodstuffs and also medical plants.

How do I book my tour?

As mentioned the garden tour is informal. It’s the same with booking your tour.

Just have a word with Ru when you arrive and she can discuss the best time to fit it in during your holiday.

Ru can also be contacted by WhatsApp 00 94 752999272
