The Pekoe Trail - Stage 19

Stage 19 of the Pekoe Trail is an 18.6 km hike from Ettampitiya to Loonuwatte, Sri Lanka.

The 300 km hike starts in Kandy and and make your way to Nuwara Eliya, passing through Haputale, Hatton and Ella.

It has 22 stages in total and the distances in each stage varies between 9.38 km (stage 14) to a maximum of 18.6 km. Stage 19 is the longest part of the hike.

The Pekoe Trail is part of the European Union’s 5.7 million Euro support for Sri Lanka’s national tourism strategy.

Also, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) also provided approximately $787,000  to support the trail.

The official Pekoe Trails website recommends that you use either All Trails, Outdoor Active or Wikiloc to help you navigate the trail.

Stage 19 is yet to be completed via the Outdoor Active App (April 2023) – Maybe you can be  the first!

An Ultra Marathon has already been completed by Hong Kong resident Hyun Chang Chung. He completed the 300km trail in 59 hours!

Where should I stay in between stages.

At the current time of writing (May 2023) there are no recommendations on the official Pekoe Trail website. In future we will update this article once a recommended list of accommodation is published.
