Our Favourite Experiences at Horton Plains National Park
Why Horton Plains is one of our favourite experiences and why it is worth visitingÂ
Horton Plains National Park is a stunning highland plateau in central Sri Lanka.
It is around 1.5 hours drive from GlenMyu Boutique Villa.
We visit several times a year and always discover something new.
The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers breathtaking views.
It is one of our favourite places to hike and unwind.
Starting the Day Right
We always start our hike early in the morning.
This gives us the best chance to see World’s End clearly.
Clouds often roll in later and obscure the view.
The early morning air is crisp and energising.
We pack a breakfast hamper prepared by GlenMyu’s staff.
Ginger tea, homemade breads, and omelette fuel our hike.
The hike begins with jackets on, but they come off soon.
As the sun rises, the temperature becomes ideal for walking.
Wildlife Encounters
We love seeing herds of Sambar Deer near the entrance.
They are calm and often graze close to the trail.
We always hope to spot a leopard but haven’t yet.
Some lucky guests at GlenMyu have seen one during their hike.
Scenic Highlights of the Hike
Lesser World’s End is the first viewpoint on the trail.
It offers a beautiful glimpse of the valley below.
World’s End is the main attraction and truly breathtaking.
We often stop here for a snack and enjoy the view.
Cloud formations dance across the landscape as the day progresses.
Rhododendrons bloom in vibrant colours depending on the season.
Mosses and flowers change throughout the year, adding variety.
We always meet other hikers and exchange stories and tips.
Baker’s Falls and the Final Stretch
Baker’s Falls is a beautiful waterfall near the end of the trail.
We love sitting nearby and enjoying the cooling spray.
It’s a peaceful spot to rest and reflect on the hike.
The 11 km loop leaves us feeling accomplished and refreshed.
Returning to GlenMyu Boutique Villa
After the hike, we return to GlenMyu Boutique Villa.
A swim in the pool eases tired leg muscles.
A delicious meal awaits, prepared with care and local ingredients.
We feel rewarded for the effort spent at Horton Plains.
A comfortable bed ensures a restful night’s sleep.
The sleep temperature in the hill country is great and there is no need for air conditioning.
Guests often say it’s the perfect end to a perfect day.
