About Us

Ru and Mike

After spending 12 years in the UK, I returned to Sri Lanka, along with my husband to realise my dream of developing a small organic farm that would provide a majority of food we eat and also to build a place where we could have people to stay.

We fell in love with the Sri Lankan Hill Country as it is not overdeveloped, has a small local population and the countryside is beautiful with spectacular views towards the southern coast.

The climate in the Hills suits us as most of the year round it is like a good summers day in the UK with temperature range between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius. There is variety however during the year as we have some wetter periods and sometimes we are temporarily enveloped in mist which creates a completely different type of atmosphere at the land.

Why Haputale?

The area is good for growing the fruits and vegetables which is the basis for most of our meals. We are fully organic and do not add any chemicals or pesticides to the produce we grow on the land.

We wanted to build a property that was rustic but modern which reflected and blended into the landscape but also had luxurious feel to it.

Building GlenMyu Estate - a huge challenge!

It was quite a challenge building in the Hills, especially as the latter part of the project took place during the global pandemic, however we were really pleased to complete the development of the property in late 2020.

The land had been used as a tea estate and then a sugar cane plantation which had been neglected and was overgrown with weeds and wild grasses. We are committed to restoring the biodiversity on the land to do our bit for the planet and have landscaped around the property making it accessible and we continuously plant more varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers in an effort to restore the land.

We have several rescue dogs which are now part of our family and have been the reason that we are able to grow the produce that we eat from the land as they protect our crops. We hope that you like dogs however will encourage them to keep their distance during your stay.

We also have around twenty ducks which keep the land clean of many of the insects that would like to eat our vegetables and they also provide us with a regular supply of eggs. They are a delight to watch as they forage around the land and if you have time we would recommend that you just sit for a while by the stream and watch them enjoy the water. They are both entertaining and delightful.

We live in the property on the upper floor and there are three on-suite guest bedrooms on the lower floors which are all spacious with floor to ceiling sliding windows that provide spectacular views of the southern hills. It’s a fantastic experience to wake up to and watch the sunset in the evening.

The Name - Glenmyu?

We named the property GlenMyu Estate which is a reference to my husbands Scottish heritage as we are situated in a Glen wrapped by two streams. Myu is a play on our surname which has always been a challenge to spell and pronounce!

We hope you enjoy your stay.

We feel that we have built a property in which you will be able to relax, unwind from the toils of everyday life, have some good food and be in touch with nature.

What can I do when I am at the Estate

There are plenty of things to do on site when you are staying at GlenMyu Estate.

We have a natural spring fed swimming pool and also walks and seating areas around the land. We also have several ducks that wander the estate and are great entertainment.

We have found that a majority of guests just relax and stay on the estate and may make the occasional short trip to one of the local sights.

If you do want to venture out:
