Why do guests return to the same place in Sri Lanka?

Travellers tend to return when a place offers more than accommodation – it offers a feeling they can’t easily find elsewhere.

A sense of home rather than a hotel

Guests often describe it as a “haven of peace” and a place they didn’t want to leave

Personalised hospitality that feels like home

One of the main reasons guests return is the personal connection with the hosts.

This is not a hotel experience – it’s:

  • Warm, welcoming, and informal
  • Tailored to each guest
  • Focused on genuine care

Guests consistently highlight the kindness and attention to detail from the hosts as a defining part of their stay

Exceptional home-cooked food (a major reason guests come back)

  • Menus are personalised

Guests frequently describe the food as:

  • “the best we had in Sri Lanka”
  • Fresh, authentic, and memorable

A rare private boutique experience

With only a small number of rooms, GlenMyu offers a level of privacy that larger hotels cannot match.

This means:

  • Quiet, uncrowded spaces
  • Personal attention
  • A relaxed atmosphere

Many guests say they wish they had stayed longer—and plan to return next time

A place that feels different every time you visit

Guests return because the experience evolves with each stay.

Each visit offers:

  • Different seasonal food
  • Changing landscapes and weather
  • New experiences (walks, cooking, exploring)

It’s not just a place you visit once—it’s a place you revisit and reconnect with

More than a stay — an experience people remember

At GlenMyu, guests often:

  • Slow down
  • Disconnect from busy travel schedules
  • Spend more time on the estate than planned

Many reviews mention:

  • Not wanting to leave
  • Planning to return
  • Recommending longer stays

That’s the strongest signal of a return-worthy experience

Where should you stay in Sri Lanka if you want to return?

The Best Place to Relax in Sri Lanka?

The Best Place to Relax in Sri Lanka

Relaxation in Sri Lanka – Where can I relax on my much deserved holiday.

Relaxing on holiday is essential.

Sri Lanka offers many destinations, but GlenMyu Boutique Villa stands out as the best place to unwind.

We find that some guests plan too much on their holiday on the fabulous island. By the time they reach GlenMyu, they realise that they need to rest and put their feet up.

It is not uncommon that guests change their plans and decide to cancel their trips and enjoy their time at the estate.

Why Guests Stay Longer at GlenMyu Boutique Villa

Most guests wish they had booked a longer stay.

The villa’s atmosphere encourages relaxation and makes visitors want to extend their holiday.

We understand that guests want to get value out of their holiday and see as much of the island as they can. However, some places are worth staying longer and enjoying the property and landscape.

Comfort in the Hill Country Climate

The villa is located in the Sri Lanka hills around one hours drive from Ella.

Temperatures at the elevation of around 1,000 metres above sea level are usually between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius during the day.

At night the temperatures drop to between 13 and 18 degrees Celsius which is a good range to sleep at without the requirement for air conditioning.

Guests find relief from the humid and hot temperatures around the island.

The cooler climate is perfect for relaxation both during the day and at night.

Spectacular Views Towards the Southern Coast

From the lounges and bedrooms, guests enjoy breathtaking views.

The scenery stretches towards the southern coast, offering a peaceful backdrop.

Floor to ceiling windows are designed to connect the outside and inside with a nod to the style of Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa.

Dining with Ruwanthi and the Team

Food at GlenMyu Boutique Villa is highly praised by the guests.

It is often the highlight of their stay.

Ruwanthi and the team prepare delicious meals that enhance the holiday experience.

Food standards are important to us and we consider it as the icing on the cake on your stay with us at GlenMyu Boutique Villa.

Sleep Well Without Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is not needed at GlenMyu Boutique Villa.

Nighttime temperatures are ideal for sleep, supported by scientific studies on healthy rest.

Lots of our guests struggle sleeping with air conditioning which is necessary at warmer parts of the country.

Sleeping with the buzz of the a/c unit and getting the right temperature so you both have a good nights sleep is a challenge that is not necessary at GlenMyu.

Nature’s Colours and Sounds in the Garden

The garden is alive with colours and sounds.

Guests enjoy birdsong, flowers and the calming presence of nature.

We find that our guests reconnect with nature at GlenMyu, and are awed by the colours of the birds and plants in the gardens.

Ru is always happy to provide a garden tour for guests that are interested in seeing what we grow on the estate.

Relax by the Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is a favourite spot.

Guests can unwind while surrounded by hills and greenery.

The pool is filled by water from a natural spring and there is no requirement to use chlorine.

Planting around the pool adds to the relaxing atmosphere.

Spend Time with the Dogs

Spending time with the villa’s dogs adds joy.

Their friendly nature makes the stay even more memorable.

So many of our guests either cannot keep animals at home or miss their pets when they are on holiday.

As all our dogs are vaccinated and used to seeing guests they fill an animal void.

Activities Near GlenMyu Boutique Villa

Relaxation is the focus, but activities are available nearby.

Favourites include:
– Upper Diyaluma Waterfall
– Horton Plains National Park
– The Pekoe Trail stages 12 and 13

Staying at GlenMyu supports ethical travel

Ethical Travel - Respect and care for animals

Animals are part of life at GlenMyu.

Dogs, cats, and rescued animals are cared for lovingly.

Guests often enjoy meeting them during their stay.

This adds warmth and authenticity to the villa experience.

Some of our profits are spent on caring and feeding the animals at the estate.

We also fund spaying and neutering of dogs for local Sri Lankan dog owner who find paying for the operation a financial challenge.

Ethical travel -Environmental responsibility at GlenMyu Boutique Villa

The villa is designed with sustainability in mind.

A natural spring-fed swimming pool reduces chemical use.

Food is prepared with estate-grown produce, minimising waste.

Produce that we cannot grow is sourced from local markets reducing food miles.

Efforts are made to protect the surrounding environment.

Ethical Travel

We believe in supporting the local community.

Being self sufficient would not be very neighbourly. Supporting local businesses helps fund the local community and their families.

Why ethical travel matters

Ethical travel supports communities and ecosystems.

Guests at GlenMyu Boutique Villa contribute to responsible tourism in Sri Lanka.

It ensures holidays benefit both people and nature.

You know that staying at GlenMyu will support, local people, animals and the environment.

We continuously plant a variety of endemic plants on the five acre estate to encourage biodiversity and a to restore the land.

Guest experiences highlight GlenMyu Boutique Villa ’s values

Reviews on Google and Booking.com praise GlenMyu Boutique Villa ’s ethos.

Guests mention the care shown to staff and animals.

They highlight the villa’s commitment to sustainability.

Ethical Travel - Activities that connect guests with nature

Guests can explore tea plantations and waterfalls nearby.

Walks through the estate reveal local flora and fauna.

These experiences deepen appreciation for Sri Lanka’s environment.

Our guest particularly enjoy UNESCO World Heritage Site Horton Plains National Park.

Upper Diyaluma Waterfall is one of our favourite places which has not been spoilt (yet!) by over-tourism.

Two stages of the new 300 kilometre, Pekoe Trail, are nearby in Haputale. This is a good social project which supports local communities along the walking trail.

Why GlenMyu is a model for ethical stays

GlenMyu Boutique Villa combines luxury with responsibility.

It shows how boutique accommodation can be ethical and sustainable.

Guests leave with memories and respect for its values.

We continue to add to sustainability of the estate and plan to add solar electricity in 2026 with any surplus being fed back to the grid.

Solar hot water tanks are already used for the hot water requirements on the estate.
