Luxembourg and sri Lanka

A Connection Between Luxembourg and Sri Lanka

A Connection Between Luxembourg and Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is now targeting high-spending tourists from Luxembourg.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau held a roadshow in Luxembourg this October.

This event aimed to attract travellers seeking luxury and authentic experiences.

You can read more about the initiative in the Sri Lankan Daily Mirror article by pressing the following link.

GlenMyu Boutique Villa offers just that in the heart of Sri Lanka’s hill country.

We have welcomed guests from Luxembourg in the past year.

One couple visited us for their honeymoon after getting married.

Their stay was peaceful, romantic, and filled with memorable moments.
We are proud to be part of their special journey.

Why Sri Lanka Appeals to Luxembourg Travellers

Luxembourg is a small but wealthy European country.
Many residents enjoy travelling to faraway destinations.

Sri Lanka offers beaches, wildlife, culture, and warm hospitality.

The country is ideal for those seeking relaxation and adventure.

Sri Lanka’s tourism board is now focusing on high-value markets.

Luxembourg fits this profile perfectly.
Visitors from Luxembourg appreciate quality and comfort.

GlenMyu Boutique Villa delivers both with elegance and charm.

Luxembourg and Sri Lanka

Guests enjoy privacy, comfort, and personalised service.

The owner, Ru, is happy to take guests on a garden tour to see the spices, fruits and vegetables that are grown on the estate.

We aim to create unforgettable experiences for every visitor.

From delicious meals to peaceful walks, everything is curated.

Our team is passionate about Sri Lankan hospitality.

We love sharing our culture and nature with guests.

Learning About Luxembourg Through Our Guests

Luxembourg and Sri Lanka

Before hosting guests from Luxembourg, we knew little about the country.

Their visit inspired us to learn more about their homeland.

It’s amazing leafing about the history, economy and the people.

Luxembourg has a high standard of living and rich history.

It was once known for mining iron and steel.

Today, it is a hub for finance, law, and global companies.

Many people working in Luxembourg are from other countries.

This diversity makes it a fascinating place to explore.
We enjoyed learning about their culture and lifestyle.

Honeymooners from Luxembourg at GlenMyu

One couple from Luxembourg chose GlenMyu for their honeymoon.

They had just married and wanted a peaceful escape.
Our villa provided the perfect setting for romance and rest.

They explored waterfalls, enjoyed candlelit dinners, and relaxed in nature.

We were honoured to be part of their celebration.
Their feedback was heartwarming and encouraging.

It reminded us why we love hosting guests.

We hope to welcome more honeymooners from Luxembourg soon.

What Makes Luxembourg Unique

Luxembourg is multilingual, with French, German, and Luxembourgish spoken.

It is one of the richest countries in the world.
Despite its size, it plays a big role in Europe.

The capital city is known for its old town and fortifications.

Many professionals live and work in Luxembourg’s thriving industries.

The country values sustainability and quality of life.

Its people are well-travelled and open-minded.
We find them curious and respectful guests.

It was interesting to find out that getting to the countryside is easy from the city centre. We like that it does not take long to get closer to nature.

Having hosted guests from Luxembourg we hope that we will visit their country and explore the city and countryside.

Encouraging More Visitors from Luxembourg to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s tourism board is actively promoting the island in Luxembourg.

We support this initiative and welcome more guests from there.

GlenMyu Boutique Villa is ideal for discerning travellers.
We offer a peaceful retreat with authentic Sri Lankan charm.

Our villa is perfect for couples, solo travellers, and families.
We tailor each stay to suit individual preferences.

Guests leave with beautiful memories and new friendships.

A new calf at GlenMyu

A Magical Morning at GlenMyu

A Magical Morning at GlenMyu, Sri Lanka

Magical Morning at GlenMyu

GlenMyu is full of surprises.
One morning, Maali, our cow, gave birth.
It was her first calf and our first too.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
A honeymoon couple was staying with us.
They were about to leave for their next stop.

Nature’s Surprise for Our Guests

Maali had wandered off alone that morning.
She chose a quiet spot near the stream.
Our team noticed something unusual and followed her.

By the time we arrived, the calf was born.
Maali was gently licking her clean.
It was a peaceful and beautiful moment.

A Calf’s First Steps and a Couple’s Joy

We invited the couple to meet the calf.
They were thrilled to witness such a moment.
The calf tried to stand, wobbling and falling.

Maali coaxed her gently to try again.
Eventually, she found her feet and stood tall.
The couple watched in awe and delight.

Naming Coco: A Sweet Connection

The guests suggested names for the calf.
They liked Cocoa or Coconut for her.
We chose Coco, which means Coconut in Spanish.

Their suggestion lived on in a lovely way.
It made the experience even more personal.

Why Honeymoons at GlenMyu Estate Are Special

GlenMyu offers more than a romantic stay.
It’s a place where nature and love meet.
Moments like this make memories that last forever.

Whether it’s a quiet walk or a surprise birth,
Every day brings something new and meaningful.

Our cow had a calf

Our Cow Had a Calf

Our cow had a calf: Maali’s Mysterious Morning Wander

Maali, our cow was foraging peacefully in the morning.

Suddenly, she wandered to the far end of the land.
We believe she wanted privacy from other animals.

Her behaviour was unusual and caught our attention.
Then came cries from our workers nearby.
I thought an eagle was attacking our chickens.

The Surprise Calf and Her First Moments

I walked past the pool towards the stream.
Ruwanthi was watching Maali from a safe distance.
By the time I arrived, the calf was born.
Maali was gently licking her clean.

We discovered the calf was female.
Upul moved her to a safer spot.
Maali continued to care for her lovingly.

A Honeymoon Memory to Treasure

Our guests were on their honeymoon.
They met the calf just after her birth.
It was a magical moment for them.

They watched the calf try to stand.
After a few tumbles, she found her feet.

Naming Our New Calf

The couple suggested Cocoa or Coconut.
We chose Coco, which means Coconut in Spanish.
So their suggestion lived on in spirit.

We’re excited to watch Coco grow.
She’s already a special part of our estate.

The Honeymoon Bed lit up - active honeymoon

An Active Honeymoon in Sri Lanka

An Active Honeymoon in Sri Lanka

Our guests chose to have an active honeymoon to remember at GlenMyu Estate 🏡

Many couples choose GlenMyu Estate for their honeymoon in Sri Lanka.

It’s peaceful, private, and surrounded by nature.

Some guests arrive tired and simply want to relax. Others seek adventure and exploration during their stay.

Recently, a honeymoon couple enjoyed three active days at GlenMyu Estate.

Their itinerary was inspiring!

First impressions count!

Arrival and First Impressions 🌙

The couple arrived late in the evening. A delicious meal awaited them, prepared by Ru and the team.

They settled in quickly and rested well before their first full day of adventure.

Arriving after dark means that you have the excitement of seeing the views and the landscape when you get up in the morning.

Although we can’t guarantee a clear view, especially in rainier parts of the year, our guests were not disappointed when they woke up the next day.

The first active honeymoon day

Day One: Lipton’s Seat and the Pekoe Trail 🍃

Early the next morning, they visited Lipton’s Seat. The views were breathtaking and worth the early start.

Going early gave them the best chance to see clearer views from Lipton’s Seat viewpoint before the clouds come in.

They walked through lush tea gardens and hiked stage 13 of the Pekoe Trail. We were impressed!

Read more about the new 300 kilometre Pekoe Trail by clicking on the following link.

Dinner with Sri Lankan flavours - after an active honeymoon day

Tonights meal was Sri Lankan String Hoppers, Curries.

The guests were invited into the GlenMyu kitchen to see how the string hoppers are made.

Ru’s mother is our Sri Lankan food expert and she prepared the dishes.

At GlenMyu Estate we offer a range of dishes which are a fusion of western dishes with Sri Lankan flavours. We are conscious that some guests are not used to the level of spices in Sri Lankan dishes and we adjust the heat levels accordingly. It’s one benefit of Ruwanthi living in the UK for so many years.

Ru’s mother regularly provides an informal Sri Lankan cookery demonstration when our guests order our Sri Lankan sharing platter.

The second active honeymoon day

Day Two: Horton Plains and a Rare Sight 🌸

The next day began even earlier. They headed to Horton Plains National Park for the 11-kilometre circular hike.

They saw the Nelu flower in bloom. This rare event happens only every 12 to 14 years.

It was a magical moment to witness on their honeymoon and a special moment to remember for years to come.

The final active honeymoon day at GlenMyu Estate

Day Three: Diyaluma Waterfall and a Surprise 🐄

On their final day, they visited Upper Diyaluma Waterfall. They arrived early and had the pools to themselves.

This peaceful experience is one of the benefits of staying at GlenMyu Estate.

After returning, they enjoyed a long, lazy breakfast with stunning views.

Ru showed our guests around the garden to show the different fruits, vegetables and spices we grow here.

Just before leaving, they saw Maali the cow deliver her calf. A beautiful moment of new life.

A great option for your honeymoon, whatever your energy feels are!

Why Choose GlenMyu Estate for Your Honeymoon? 💚

GlenMyu Estate offers comfort, adventure, and unforgettable memories.

It’s perfect for couples who love nature and activity.

Of course, if you just want to relax by the pool, enjoy nature and eat amazing food, it is also the place for you!

Honeymoon Hearts for Valentine's Day in Sri Lanka

Valentine’s Day Sri Lanka

Valentine's Day Sri Lanka

Do you want to do something special on Valentine’s Day in Sri Lanka?

A stay at a luxury boutique villa in the Sri Lankan Hill country, away from the crowds, may be for you and your loved one.

Valentine's Day in Sri Lanka

Valentine's Day - what is it?

Love on Valentine's `day
A romantic getaway

February the 14th is a special day around the world where loved ones.

It is thought that that this holiday has origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which is held in mid-February.

This festival celebrated the coming of spring. Part of the festival included fertility rites and the pairing off of women

Towards the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I forbid the celebration of Lupercalia and he is sometimes attributed with replacing it with St. Valentine’s Day.

The actual origins are not certain however, Valentine’s Day did not come to be celebrated as a day of romance until about the 14th century.

A romantic getaway in Sri Lanka

February the 14th happens to fall during the main tourist season in Sri Lanka.

Many travellers from Northern Europe escape the cold winter temperatures and visit this paradise island.

We, at GlenMyu Estate, think that just because you are on holiday, you should still celebrate Valentine’s Day with your someone special.

As we only have three guests bedrooms, it is a perfect place to spend a romantic night or two together whilst on holiday.

What makes Valentine's Day special?

According to a 2022 US YouGov poll, when asked what they would like to receive as a Valentine’s Day gift, the most common answers were as follows;

A card ( 30%)
To go out for a nice dinner (28%)
Chocolates or candy/sweets 27%)
Flowers (22%)
A homemade meal or baked goods (20%) to celebrate the day.
Under one in five (17%) want sexual favors to celebrate the holiday!
16% would welcome a piece of jewellery.

Going out for an expensive Valentine's Day dinner

In the UK, I used to get quite anxious trying to find the right restaurant to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
It’s a commercial event where restaurants bump up their prices to make the most of the demand in bleak mid February. And February payday is a long time coming!

Apart from feeling a bit ripped off, I really didn’t like sitting in a busy restaurant for the meal. It didn’t feel that special.

GlenMyu Estate has only been open since 2022 and we only have three guest bedrooms, Valentine’s Day feels so much more of a special experience for our guests.

The food is great (read our reviews!) and it is a really special place to spend that romantic night together.
We even encourage you to bring your own wine or bubbly in order to keep the costs as low as possible for you.

Here are a couple from Austria who enjoyed a special Valentine’s evening together at GlenMyu Estate.

Great food to warm the heart

Ru and the team prepare something special for our guests on Valentine’s Day.

We have enough space in the lounges to provide you with some privacy making it a memorable experience for you and your partner.

6 reasons why holidays are good for your health

6 reasons why holidays are good for your health.

Our 6 reasons why holidays are good for your health.

Reset and recharge at GlenMyu Estate in the Sri Lankan Hill Country.

We find that lots of our guests have the plan to go out and explore the wonders of the Sri Lankan Hill country. However, we have found that several guests charge they plans and spend the day at the five acre estate.

It is important that you plan some downtime as you travel around the island. Many guests have found that GlenMyu Estate is the ideal place to reenergise, relax and give some time for their wellbeing.

However, if you want to explore, hike or walk, there are plenty of opportunities to satisfy these needs.

1.Opportunities to be more active

You are naturally more active.

Completing your 10,000 steps each day on holiday feel so much easier than at home.

One the things that is great to do on holiday is explore and take in the sights. The ‘distraction’ of taking in all of the picturesque scenery takes your mind away from how many steps you have completed.
You will probably end up walking most of the day.

Strolling around the city visiting museums, art exhibitions and seeing historic properties, or just enjoying exploring a new place is a great way to exercise whilst focussing on other things.

Accidental exercise

There are so many places in the Sri Lankan Hill country to get some “accidental exercise”.

You may also find yourself doing activities such as swimming in our natural pool at GlenMyu Estate a few times a day and expending lots of energy.

There are plenty of opportunities of hiking nearby. Lipton’s Sea, Horton Plains National Park and Upper Diyaluma Waterfall are all at a high elevation. You will find that you work your body a little harder than nearer to sea level.

Surely, accidental exercise is the best form of exercise!

2. A chance to recharge your batteries

Going on holiday provides plenty of opportunities to recharge your batteries and get away from it all.

One of the main reasons we love to travel is so we can relax on holiday.

Even just planning the vacation can boost your feeling of happiness. It also gives you something to look forward to.

Being away from your usual day to day pressures can reduce  stress levels.

Relaxation helps to drop your blood pressure. This in turn  reduces the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, in your blood.

A New Year's resolution - to swim every day.

So, there is no harm in spending as much time by the pool as you like!

Downtime on holiday is also great for giving your mind some respite.

The key element is to spend quality time doing whatever it is that helps you decompress.

Getting a good nights sleep is another thing many of us don’t get enough of.

A holiday usually gives you the opportunity to both sleep and rest.

At GlenMyu Estate we find that our guests manage to get a good nights sleep. The temperate in the Sri Lankan Hill country means that we do not need air conditioning. Many guests are not used to air conditioning and have not slept well as they are disturbed by the sound. They also get dehydrated which also upsets their sleep.

The temperature at night at GlenMyu Estate is within the range that scientists recommend which helps you have a good nights sleep.

Comfortable beds

3. You can experience something new

Whether you take a city break, or a trip to the country, you will find plenty of new scenery to enjoy.

By travelling abroad you will meeting new people and experience a new culture. You will also meet fellow tourists to share your experience with and get some recommendations on what is great to see and visit.

Adapting to new situations in a country where your language is not their first language can stimulate and engage your mind. This is both helpful for your mental health and also has the benefit providing a sense of creativity and wellbeing.

Many of our guests find that Sri Lanka is a soft entry into Asia. Although you will come across some challenges with communication in some parts, mostly the island is easy to navigate your way around. People in Sri Lanka go out their way to help you and are not necessarily looking to be rewarded financially for their assistance.

Things to see on holiday in Sri Lanka.

Here are our Australian guests enjoying the sunrise at Lipton’s Seat.

This is a memory that will stay with them for many years to come.

It’s moments like this that are good for you, your relationship and your health.

4. Get closer to nature and embrace the elements

For many of us, a change in the weather is reason enough to go on holiday!

Lots of travellers visit Sri Lanka during the cold Northern Hemisphere winter. Mid December to early April is the peak tourist season on the island. The weather is good on the south and west coasts. You can top up your tan during at the beaches on there coasts.

There is a good reason to spend time in the sun. Science has revealed that being in the sun (in moderation of course!) gives your body a boost of vitamin D. This can promote strong bones and create a more effective immune system along with boosting energy levels.

It is important to ensure you stay well protected in the sun. Use a high SPF sunscreen and avoid the sun when it is strongest.

5. Time to think and a chance to reset

Spending time away can give you a good chance to reset.

Perhaps you have noticed that you have developed some bad habits over time. It can feel overwhelming trying to rectify them indoor usual setting. But a holiday can provide us with the break and time to reassess your current situation.

6. Holidays are good for mental health

It is becoming clearer that holidays are hugely beneficial for our mental health.

Where else can you spend doing the things that you love, than being away on holiday?

Whether it’s by yourself or with loved ones you will have more time to be in the moment with them.

A family holiday creates an opportunity to reconnect and strengthen bonds.

Solo travel provides a time alone where you have time to think without everyday  distractions.

It can be incredibly healing and provide an escape from a busy schedule.

Being away can give you the time to enrich your mind, reset and focus on your mental wellbeing.

6 reasons why holidays are good for your health - Summary

  1. Opportunities to be more active.
  2. A chance to recharge your batteries.
  3. You can experience something new.
  4. Get closer to nature and embrace the elements.
  5. Time to think and a chance to reset
  6. Holidays are good. for mental health.

A Honeymoon Chair for Valentine's Day in Sri Lanka

Our 1st Honeymoon

Our 1st Honeymoon

As GlenMyu Estate is a new property, completed in 2021, we have had a lot of new experiences when welcoming guests. We have celebrated our 1st Christmas, our 1st Birthday and now our first Honeymoon in Sri Lanka.

Enjoy your honeymoon at GlenMyu Estate

Our first honeymooners were a delightful couple from Ireland and Ru and I were keen to do something to make their holiday in Sri Lanka special.

We welcomed the newlyweds in December so we had already decorated the house in readiness for Christmas 2023. Most of the decorations were made by the staff and Ru’s mother did lots of crocheting and needlework to make Santas, festive tablecloths and decorations.

So the House at GlenMyu Estate was already looking good for when our honeymooners arrived.

Preparing the Honeymoon Room.

The honeymooners had chosen the Mahogany Bedroom which has a spectacular view of the hills and valleys below the house.

We wanted to do something extra in the room to make it special for the couple when they arrived.

Ru’s mother had made some love heart cushions and Sampath decorated the bed with red coupled swans made from red towels.

The concrete bath had a scattering of candles in case the couple wanted to have a romantic bath together. Yes, our baths are made for two!

Here are some pictures of what the guests saw when they arrived.

The reaction was just what we were hoping for so it was a job well done.

Happily we have our second honeymoon at the end of December so we will be ready to welcome them with a similar display.

What is a Honeymoon?

A Honeymoon is a holiday spent together by a newly married couple.

The word comes from the Scandinavian custom of drinking mead or fermented honey as it was thought to increase the likelihood of fertility.

Normally the honeymoon is taken immediately or shorty after the wedding.

We have found however that some couples take a “mini moon” and then a longer honeymoon later on.

A mini moon is typically a long weekend (up to 5 days)  that gives the couple a much needed rest after all the stress of planning their wedding.

We didn’t know about the phrase when we got married but this is in effect what we did.

Ru and I got married in Sri Lanka and did a short trip to a different part of the island a few days later. We didn’t realise how exhausted we would be and it was really needed.

Our honeymoon was several months later in a cottage in the Welsh Countryside. It was a lovely to spend some time together and reminisce about pour special day.

Why are Honeymoons so important?

A Honeymoon is the first significant time that the couple will spend and share together after a marriage.

One of the main benefits is to have some undistracted time together.

It is a time to bond, relax, celebrate together, reflect on matters, plan and look forward to the time ahead.

The honeymoon is something to look forward to after the marriage.

What should we do on our honeymoon in Sri Lanka?

Well, I suppose that it depends on what you like to do.

Most couples spend their time indulging in a romantic time together. Having a special dinner together, exploring new places, having an adventure or partying at a club.

There are so many things that you can do.

Tips for planning a perfect honeymoon

It is worth planning your honeymoon and we would suggest that you start with the following:

1. Both the Bride & Groom should start by writing down their three favourite things, such as art, food, beach or nature, history and spa. Clearly these items are not exhaustive.

2. Discuss and finely hone down your shared interests which will help define where you want to go

3. Budget and put money away toward the honeymoon and experiences.

By having unified plan for your honeymoon it will add substance to the start of your lives together.

Why Honeymoon in Sri Lanka?

If you are looking for a a honeymoon bursting with culture and adventure then we would suggest that you consider Sri Lanka.

In Sri Lanka you can:

Visit beautiful temples

Taste a variety of delicious teas at one of the tea plantations.

See a range of animals on a safari.

Relax on one of the many beaches around the island.

Experience a wide range of accommodation for different budgets.

Enjoy breathtaking views from the Lion Rock Temple at Sigiriya, Lipton Seat or the many Waterfalls.

There are so many things that you can do I’m sure that it would fit into one of your items on your honeymoon list.

Why consider GlenMyu Estate as part of your honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka?

A holiday to Sri Lanka is wonderful however it can be quite exhausting.

The colours, new experiences and tropical heat on this Paradise Island are so different than it can drain your energy.

As GlenMyu Estate is in the Sri Lankan Hill Country the temperatures are a little more comfortable than the heat of the coasts and cities.

We find that guests arrive and there is a sense of relief coming to a slightly cooler climate with space and surrounded by nature.

We only have 3 guest bedrooms at the 5 acre estate so there are plenty of opportunities for you to have “couple time” around the estate. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy nature together.

You can find out more at our website.
