The views around the Estate - Creativity on holiday

Two Lounges where you can relax, chat and enjoy the views

GlenMyu Boutique Villa has two comfortable lounges that have views of the southern hills.

The middle floor have ample seating where you can sit together or separately, if you want some space.

Dining is on the lower floor of the house.

We also have a snug which is an ideal place to have a pre-dinner drink and chat about your day in the Sri Lankan hills.

Three comfortable Bedrooms

We only have three guest bedrooms at GlenMyu Boutique Villa.

The Mahogany and Mango bedrooms are situated on the middle floor and have a communal lounge.

All the beds in the bedrooms look out over the views to the south of the island through floor to ceiling windows.

Our Cinnamon bedroom is on the ground floor of the property and has direct access to the gardens.

The Swimming Pool

Our Natural Spring-Fed Swimming pool at GlenMyu Boutique Villa is located a short walk from the house.

Guests like that fact that it is private and not overlooked by the house.

Surrounded by nature, it is a wonderful place to relax whilst listening to the soundtrack of bird songs.

Food, glorius food!

Our food offering at GlenMyu Boutique Villa is mainly plant based or vegetarian as we are able to source good quality fresh ingredients.

However, we do offer some fish and chicken dishes for our guests.

Breakfast is quite substantial and guests often skip lunch.

We make our dishes freshly to order from the best ingredients we can find.

What we serve to you is important to us and Ru and the team have a good reputation for cuisine with a hint of Sri Lankan flavours.

Amma shows you how to cook Sri Lankan

We offer a complimentary Sri Lankan cookery demonstration at GlenMyu Boutique Villa when our guests order our Sri Lankan sharing platter.

The platter consists of six or seven vegetarian dishes and is served with rice or flat bread.

It’s a fun and interesting experience. We love it when our guests try making some of the dishes when they get home.

Ruwanthi's garden tour

There are five acres at GlenMyu Boutique Villa and we grow various fruits, vegetables, and spices.

Ruwanthi is happy to provide a garden tour to interested guests.

Often you will pick some of the ingredients that will be used in the meals that you will eat that evening.

Instagram vs. Reality

Instagram vs. Reality: Has Social Media Ruined Travel?

📸 Instagram vs. Reality:

I was listing to the Parenting Hell Podcast and the latest episode was Instagram vs. Reality.

It led me to think about conversations with guests at GlenMyu Estate about how social media may have ruined travel.

I’m pleased that the reaction when they enter the house at GlenMyu Estate is positive. We regularly hear that the photos do not do it justice,

Beauty beyond the filter

🌍 Discover the Beauty Beyond the Filter — Especially at GlenMyu Estate, Sri Lanka

In the age of social media, Instagram has become the ultimate travel brochure — glossy, curated, and often misleading.

Travellers frequently arrive at restaurants, hotels, or sightseeing locations only to be met with disappointment.

The vibrancy they expected from photos fails to match real life.

Has Instagram set up unrealistic travel expectations?

The weather has been better than expected in early October 2025 which has helped strong tourist arrivals.

Flip the narrative

At GlenMyu Estate in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Uva Province, we flip that narrative.

Guests consistently tell us that our estate looks better in person than in the photos online — and that’s no accident.

It’s pleasing to hear this from our guests. We would not want them to be disappointed.

No filter needed

🌿 Reality Over Filters: The GlenMyu Estate Philosophy

Unlike many destinations that rely on heavily edited marketing images, most of GlenMyu Estate’s photos on platforms like Booking.com, Airbnb, and our official website are captured using a standard mobile phone — with little to no manipulation.

Guests arrive and say “wow” — not because we’ve staged perfection, but because we’ve honoured authenticity.

Sleeping well on holiday

“We could hire professionals to take stunning photos… but then, wouldn’t reality fall short?”

— GlenMyu Estate

A real experience

🏞️ Nature, Unfiltered: What You’ll Really Experience

– 🌳 Five acres of biodiverse bliss — a habitat designed for humans and wildlife
– 🐦 Birdwatching paradise — dozens of species, many unique to Sri Lanka
– 🦋 A dream of butterflies — vibrant, colourful pollinators on their natural journey
– 🌱 A sustainable food forest — working with nature, not against it

From the rustling of leaves to the fresh scent of rain on fertile soil, GlenMyu Estate invites guests into a living, breathing ecosystem.

It’s an experience no photo can truly capture.

A Digital Detox

📴 The Digital Detox You Didn’t Know You Needed

We encourage guests to unplug. Reconnect with nature. Discover the peace and presence that social media can’t offer.

Whether it’s sipping fresh tea while gazing over misty hills or hearing birdsong at dawn, reality — at GlenMyu Estate — delivers more than any Instagram reel.

Yes, we do use social media

Despite our views about manipulated images and Instagram vs. Reality, we at GlenMyu Estate, do use social media to promote the business.

Unfortunately, we have to use social media to find us.

We try to do as little manipulation to the images as possible so when you arrive Instagram does not ruin the reality of your experience of GlenMyu Estate.

Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka in August

Sri Lanka in August

August is a great month to visit Sri Lanka.

This is our driest month in the Sri Lankan Hill Country at GlenMyu Estate.

Unlike other months you are unlikely to see any rain which could spoil some of the sightseeing when you are on holiday.

What is the month of August like in Sri Lanka?

Clearly, the weather around the globe is less predictable. Heatwaves in the UK, flooding in Spain and too many wildfires in the US and Australia makes planning your holiday less certain.

Sri Lanka is  affected by Monsoons, however, in the hill country, typically we get little or no rain.

It makes it a safer place to visit when you want to avoid adverse weather.

The Weather in August in Sri Lanka

At GlenMyu Estate, near Beragala, Sri Lanka we find that August is a dry month. Fortunately, we have springs on the five acre estate, and to date have always had water throughout the year.

It’s great to spend time at the natural spring-fed swimming pool after a days exploring the sights nearby.

I have some links to weather sites so you can seed for yourself what you should expect.

Not good for the garden, but great for the guests

One of the reasons why the Sri Lankan Hill country is so lush is that it gets regular bouts of rain.

However, with little or no rain in August, we get the sprinklers on to keep the lawns in good shape.

Here is Patch enjoying the shoe looking at the swimming pool in the  distance.

Is going in holiday to Sri Lanka in August a good idea?

August is a high tourist season in Sri Lanka due to the weather and the natural holiday period in the west.

We have found that many more Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans are visiting Sri Lanka in August.

If you are looking to avoid the Southern Hemisphere winter, then visiting Sri Lanka in August is a good choice.

Arugam Bay is great for surfing at this time of year. The East coast beaches are also open and visiting this less developed part of the island is great if you want to avoid the crowds.

Yes, it's great to holiday in Sri Lanka in August

As Sri Lanka is still developing its’ tourism offering the local people welcome tourists.

Unlike some established tourist spots in Europe, you won’t be squirted with a water pistol!

The East and North Coasts of the island were not available to visit during the countries civil war which ended over fifteen years ago.

If you are looking to explore a place which has not been overdeveloped then Sri Lanka is a great place to holiday in August.

Dining Digital Detox

What sets GlenMyu apart is its commitment to freshness and sustainability. Much of the produce used in the kitchen is grown right on the estate’s five-acre property—from jackfruit and cinnamon to edible leaves, herbs, and tropical fruits.

Eggs come from the villa’s own free-range hens, and the garden-to-table ethos is evident in every dish.

A culinary expereince

The culinary experience at GlenMyu isn’t just about eating—it’s about connection.

Guests are often invited to watch or even participate in cooking demonstrations, learning how to prepare traditional Sri Lankan dishes with a modern twist.

It’s a chance to engage with local culture in a meaningful and delicious way.

Beyond the food

Beyond the food, GlenMyu Estate offers a serene retreat with panoramic views.
A natural spring-fed pool, and easy access to nearby attractions like Lipton’s Seat and the Pekoe Trail.

It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and every detail—from the warm hospitality to the scent of fresh-baked bread in the morning—makes you feel at home.

Finding a hidden gem in Sri Lanka.

Finding a Hidden Gem

Finding a hidden gem in Sri Lanka.

Discovering a place to stay that you fall in love with before others do is a great feeling.

However, once it’s on the tourist radar, you may find it difficult to get a room!

As more tourists visit Sri Lanka there are less chances that you will find a hidden gem.

Of course, as more people discover the hidden gem, the cat will be out of the bag and everyone will know about it.

The trick is to get there early before others do.

Sri Lanka is becoming a more popular tourist destination

Sri Lanka has seen its’ tourist numbers increase substantially over the last year.

In December 2023, January 2024 and February 2024, tourist numbers when compared against the previous period.

It still has a long way to go before it competes with Bali, Cambodia or Thailand.

The tourist board have ambitious targets for the coming year, so get there before it becomes too busy.

A hidden gem in the Sri Lankan hill country

GlenMyu Estate has only been operating since the start of 2022.

Guests love it and there are already we have had several returning guests.

What's so special?

A comfortable place to stay, space and amazing food are there things that our guests comment upon.

As we only have three guest bedrooms at the five acre estate, you are not fighting with other guests for space.

There are no need for time slots to enjoy the natural spring fed infinity swimming pool.

We don’t have staff bothering you too often looking to upsell.

What my wife and I have found is that we can assess the level of interaction our guests want shortly after your arrival.

There is so much more, but you really have to stay to find out what you like best.

Feedback from our guests is important

We have been humbled by what our guests say about their stay with us at GlenMyu Estate.

Neither my wife or I are extroverts and we are really overwhelmed and amazed by our guests taking the time to write the words about their time with us.

It won't last for long!

Some of our guests tell us that they want to keep GlenMyu Estate undiscovered so that there will always be a room for them when they come back!

We have no plans to expand from the three bedrooms that we have and therefore we do believe that in time it will be more difficult to get a room at the estate.

Although we have not been trading very long, we already have had several returning guests and recommendations to their friends and family.

We are very humbled and proud of the things that our guests write about their stay at GlenMyu Estate.

Ali Booking.com July 2024

This is one of the best stays we’ve ever had in our life. We travel alot and we’ve been in many 5 stars hotel, but this property is unique and it offers more than just a luxury stay, it offers a unique and very personalised experience. We have saw the most breathtaking views, swam in the most amazing pool in the heart of a green jungle and we ate the best food cooked by Ru. The food prepared by this lady is better than many food we have tasted in micheline star restaurants around the world. Both Micheal and Ru, will welcome you with so much love and kindness and the chats with them will blow you away. They are very passionate and do what they do with a lot of love. The room was very comfortable and the views from that balcony is something to die for. Finally, the dogs were the cherry on the cake for our lovely stay. This place oozes with natural beauty that is beyond magical and with human kindness that will make you attached and wanna come back again.
Nothing, literally nothing. Everything was perfect
