Tourist arrivals make a strong start in October in Sri Lanka
A strong start!
With 34,000 arrivals to Sri Lanka in the first six days of October, the tourism industry is seeing a strong start.
The number of arrivals provides some confidence that the country will receive the monthly target of 197,693 visitors set for October 2025.
This is good news as the arrivals were behind target. Â It meant that the annual plan had to be adjusted from 3 million to over 2.6 million tourist arrivals.
It’s been a strong start to October for tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Agency.
We, at Glenyu Estate, certainly have seen an increase in bookings for October. Most of the travellers are from the UK or Australia and have been recommended to stay at GlenMyu Estate by former guests.
Although the weather can be a bit tricky the rains have been delayed which has extended the tourist season. (it is normally the Inter-monsoon season where we get more rain)
Also, as TimeOut Magazine cited Sri Lanka as the best place to visit in October 2025.
It appears that readers of the magazine have taken note.
A stretching target
Even with this strong start in October 2025, Sri Lanka will need to attract an additional 840,460 visitors during the final quarter of the year.
Originally the plan had been set at 3 million arrivals during the calendar year 2025.
This was still going to be a stretch as 2024 had seen 2.053 million arrivals.
An increase of 900,000 tourists in the year was always going to be a challenge.
Happy with the strong start

TimeOut Magazine had recommended Sri Lanka as the number one place to visit in October 2025 as it was the shoulder season. Good rates and less tourists were worth the risk of the changing weather.
We have experienced better weather in the Sri Lankan Hill country than we would normally expect in October.
Although the gardens could do with the rain, tourists have benefited by being able to visit the sights in good weather without the large crowds.
