A September Swim
Swimming in September in the Sri Lankan Hill country
As I was sitting with my feet in the pool at GlenMyu Estate, with a dog by my side, I was thinking of how lucky I am.
I had time to think before my evening swim.
During August and for the first half of September, at least, we have very little rain in the Sri Lankan Hill country. The sun was out during the day warming up the water.
Swimming in September and later in the year
Despite the spring water that feeds the pool constantly flowing, the heat of the day is retained making it a pleasant temperature to swim in.
As the weather deteriorates during October and November, the water in the swimming pool is cooler, making it more of a “decision” getting into the water. However, even in the cooler months, once you are in and have adjusted to the water temperature, a swim at the end of the day is pure bliss.
A welcome guest at my September swim
This evening there was no hesitation.
I normally swim in the morning around 8 a.m. before the sun gets too strong. It’s a wonderful start to the day.
Exercise before breakfast makes the delicious food that Ru and the team prepare even more appetising and guilt free.
Clove, our first dog, sits at the side of the pool. I don’t know whether she is on guard dog duty or just likes my company.
Either way I feel honoured to have her by my side.
Everyone loves Clove.
She has a sweet personality and lots of our guests at GlenMyu Estate would have loved to take her home.
After taking in the sounds of nature considering turning in for the night I get into the pool and start my swim. I swim between 30 and 50 laps on each session. The number all depends on my mood and how I feel. Whatever the distance I manage, I feel great achieving my daily swim.
Back at the house
I look forward to a hot shower back at the house at GlenMyu Estate.
As we use solar water, it also is a good feeling that the stare has been warmed by the sun. During this time of the year it gets pretty hot and is a good finish to the day.
I didn’t dream of having a swimming pool. It just wasn’t an ambition of mine.
Perhaps using communal pools that are full of chlorine and people put me off.
It wasn’t until having the opportunity of having a pool all to myself at times that I understood why it would be a dream of many people.
Cherishing the moments, every month
I really cherish the times in the swimming pool, especially if I am on my own. My only disturbance is the nature that surrounds me. It gives me space and time to think.
As we only have three guest bedrooms at GlenMyu Estate, you may find that there are times where you have the swimming pool to yourself.
We love that we can share GlenMyu Estate and guests can experience some of the things that we are able to do on a regular basis.
